Annual Dinner 2004



This page is dedicated to the years Annual Dinner of 2004, from here you will be able to find out everything you need to know about this years event. It was a great night and everyone had a great time, especially watching Samuel fumble through his after dinner speech before Dr Raychaudhury's talk. As always lots of probably embarrassing photos where taken and these can be found below.

Date: Thursday 11th March 2004 (19:30 onwards)

Venue: Thistle Hotel, Edgbaston (see below for directions)

Price: £30 for Astrosoc Members and £33 for non-members

Guest Speaker: Dr S Raychaudhury of the University of Birmingham.

The Annual Dinner included a three course meal (with wine) followed by an after dinner talk by our guest speaker. More information on the Menu and the Hotel can be found below.

Pictures from the event

A large amount of pictures where taken and so there is quite good coverage of the people attending and are taken by many different people so we would like to thank everyone for the use of their pictures. (more to come!)

Minestrone soup

Supreme of chicken served with a red wine and wild mushroom jus or roast gravy
(or Stuffed Peppers and Mediterranean vegetables with cous cous).

Selection of market fresh vegetables and potatoes

Tropical cheesecake with a mango and strawberry coulis

Freshly brewed coffee or tea

[A bottle of Piesporter and a bottle of Merlot on each table]

Directions to hotel:

From A38 follow signs for International Convention Centre (ICC), Broad Street. On Broad Street continue towards Five Ways Island. Take underpass which leads onto Hagley Road. The hotel is situated 1 mile on the right. There are 200 car parking spaces at no charge.

Birmingham New Street Railway Station is 2.5 miles from the hotel. It is advised to take a taxi

Here are some basic instructions on how to get to the hotel, these are probably not the best for any individual but give a basic idea (see below map).

1 Depart on BRISTOL ROAD
2 Turn left onto EDGBASTON PARK ROAD 0.2miles
3 Turn left onto PRITCHATTS ROAD 0.5m
4 Continue straight ahead onto RICHMOND HILL ROAD 1.2m
5 Turn left 1.7m
6 Turn right onto HARBORNE ROAD 1.71m
7 Turn left 2.11m
8 Turn left onto HAGLEY ROAD 2.12m
9 Bear right onto PORTLAND ROAD 2.32m
10 Arrive at your destination 2.42m
